Oh boy. Here we go. The what if's of the Titanic.

There's so many "what if's" to the Titanic disaster, that you could write a book with every sentance starting with "what if". That book would be thicker than War And Peace!

As for the myth of alcohol keeping you warm in freezing water, I've heard that one so many times, that I'm suprised it's not been busted or proven by the Mythbusters! Anyone know what their website address is?

i think you're right...it does give you a false scense of warmth...just like in the 1800's giving a man alcogol before you took a bullrt out...made the pain less....until the alcohol wore off...

Historian Don Lynch stated that the bars were closed during the sinking, so most people were out of luck who wanted a drink.

Yeah, I have also read that it was the alcohol that kept Charles Joughin alive.

However, if I am not mistaken, I read somewhere that alcohol actually speeds up the affects of hypothermia, that is gives the body a false sense of warmth or something, so Joughin's survival is really a mystery.

Does anyone out there really know the truth about this? (The affects of alcohol on a freezing body?)

What if alot more people on the Titanic drank brandy before they went in the water? wouldnt it keep them insolated by the cold?? Because I read in A Night to Remember that the reason one man could stay long enough in the water to picked up by the lifeboat was because he was drinking alot of brandy on the ship.
