Kay, don't you really mean, Captain E.J. Smith...as in Captain Edward John Smith?

Was Titanic not before that, but Titanic is more remembered because it was almost an impossibility for it to founder, and it did.

The Titanic was a trap. It sank. The end.

The Titanic was not the greatest peacetime maritime disaster. The sinking of the Wilhelm Gustlof, with more than five thousand murder victims appears to far exceed the murder tally of Titanic. (Stalin gave the order to torpedo the Wilhelm Gustlof, and her cargo of six thousand Russians fleeing his murderous purge)

Titanic was a accident just looking for a place to happen. Before the departure there was a terrible coal shortage. Titanic had not enough coal to make the voyage one way so White Star cancelled several other ship departures and coal and crews was taken from those ships to make a full load for the Titanic to make it's maiden voyage. Many crewmen from other ships were tranfered to the Titanic. I always believed this unfamiliarity with the ship cause a lot of the chaos during the lifeboat loading and launching. With only the few hours of sea trials Titanic had, nobody really had a feeling for the actual turning radious, stopping distances or other factors that were tested during sea trials. And they wonder why they couldn't miss the iceberg? I have researched that but will save that for a new thread. There were serious mistakes made there that could have altered the entire outcome. I'll start it soon.
