why do people keep saying the rivots popped out and thats what sank the ship....here is FACT that , that is not true........................on a 1996 expedition Paul Matthias boarded the IFREMER's deep diving nauticle equipped with nimble mechanical arms and advanced technology to SEE THROUGH THE MUD what they found was 6 narrow openings ( or 6 thin slits) some only as wide as a human finger but the damage was no more than 12 square feet. the water rushed into the ship at 7 tons per second ..even though the holes were small they were 20 ft below the waterline!!thats where high pressure would have rapidly forced the water into the ship......by midnight the ship had taken 7,450 tons of water, by 1am 25,000 tons of water, by 2 am 39,000 tons of water forcing her bow underwater....so "CONCLUSION" a combination of high water pressure and and 6 holes or slits sank the largest , safest liner in the world...not rivots popping out.........thx mooky
