I think her mom is just plain mean and evil. She doesn't think of what her daughter wants, her mom just wants her to keep the family name "healthy" and wants her to do the proper thing and not leave with Jack. Like Romeo (I kno Leo Dicaprio also played him) and Juliet. Juliet's family doesn't care about what she wants they just want her to do the proper thing by marrying Paris and not Romeo. If I were Rose, I'd go with Jack not Cal, if I were Juliet, I'd go with Romeo not Paris. Jack and Romeo (both played by Leo) seem like more nice, interesting, and fun people to be around rather than Cal and Paris. That is just my opinion tho.
