I also want to point out that it has been noted by many historians and scientists that had they had the binoculars they didn' thave that night, it wouldn't have made a differece at all, since there wasn't a moon that night, and the iceburg was virtually impossible to see in a moonless, an calm night.
There was no light to make it known, and no water was lapping at the base, so really the only way it woul dhave been spotted was how it was in real life.
