Alright!! My favorite aspect of the Titanic, the Marconi room. As for Jack Phillips here is all I've managed to find out:
John George "Jack" Phillips was born in Godalming,Surrey, UK on Aprill 11, 1887. He had just turned 25 when the Titanic sunk. After grammer school he passed his civil service exam and became a telegraphist for the local post office. In 1906 he went to Marconi Company's Wireless Telegraphy Training Centre in Liverpool. After graduating he was posted as junior wireless officer on a number of ships including, Lusitania, Mauritania,Teutonic and the Oceanic. The Oceanic has been claimed to have been his favorite ship to work on. Two years later sometime in 1908 he was posted at Clifden transatlantic transmitting station in Ireland. Clifden transmitted messages from Glace Bay Newfoundland. It is highly suspected that Jack Phillips quite possibly have been in contact with Mr.Marconi himself. He went back to sea aboard the Adriatic and was then posted as Cheif wireless officer of Titanic and sent up to Belfast to set up and tune the equipment. His death is still shrouded in mystery, nobody knows for sure if he did make it to collapsible b or not, his body was never found. He had two sisters and the familly lived on top of a drapers shop.
Here's an interesting fact: Jack Phillips has the Largest memorial of any individual memorialized after the disaster. His hometown of Godalming were proud of him and dedicated a garden and field in his honour. There is also the memorial somewhere in the garden (I think the middle). The local pub is also named after him, above the bar is a photo of him and some pictures of the Titanic.
Hope that helps.
