I just re-watched something from "Titanic: Untold Stories." (DISCOVERY CHANNEL) It follows Fred Barrett through parts of the show. It mentions that Fred Barrett and other stokers were putting out some of the fires in the boilers when one of the other stokers fell through a manhole and broke his leg. Barrett tried to help him but the bulkhead collapsed and Barrett had to leave. His friend could not make it. Barrett ran up to the Boat Deck and got in a lifeboat.
That's how the show has it. I am assuming that it takes that from the story Barrett gave.
I am no engineer, but is it possible for only part of a bulkhead to have collapsed?
