Hello
New Here and thought I needed to respond to this post. While you are entitled to your opinion. I dont think it's right to bash James Camron considering the ridiculous amount of detail he put into the the movie, and yes it is VERY accurate. Of course Jack and Rose (and some of thier associates) did not exist, but do you seriously think that there was not one woman who decided to hang back because their husband could not board with them. If I recall correctly, Mrs. Isador Straus her self got off a life boat because she did not want to leave her husband. Even though Jack and Rose didnt exist, I think they were a great representation of what many couples had to go through on the ship that night.
The only thing I find disappointing is the way people spend so much time focusing on Jack and Rose, and not the entire story. From what I've read around the internet it's like story of the Titanic is way in the background somewhere and that this movie was ALL about Jack and Rose. I dont know what James Cameron was attempting with Jack and Rose, but here's how I look at it; though the characters were fictional, the made the whole experince more personlized and in my mind, making me realized couples on the ship had to endure. Jack and Rose became just as much a part of the very historically accurate "background" as if they were true victims (despite the flaws you mention of having a 3rd class in rags in an area they would be allowed).
Even if you dont appreciate the "Jack and Rose" part of the movie, you must appreciate the detail Jim put into it. I mean for goodness sakes he forfeited his own pay check to finish a movie he didnt even think was going to be big. He went diving to the wreck of Titanic, he had Titanic historians by his side, and he even had the makes of the furnishings on Titanic recreate the same furnature. Not to mention the accuracy of the wood and iron work. I think it's unbelievable the amount of detail he put into this movie.
