I knew about the facts, but that's a really good question as to why they did not blow it.

Part of the answer has to do with when they were blowing it. Sound carries differently in cold, and at night, both of which mattered here. The rockets also supposedly could be heard a long way away but weren't, mostly due to the fact that sound actually falls in sharp cold, because of the induction currents in the air. So it simply can't carry far enough to make a diff. Also, they didn't know how far off that ship was.
There's also a good possibility no one thought of it. Probably the best answer of them all. |

Titanic's whistle was blown every noon to to tell other ships in the area that everything was well, except for that and in port the whstles were ony used to let other ships know of her position (or course) :D

Is that amazing or what? I remember a few years back hearing the whistle from someone's site or online somewhere. What a trip back in history?
This is why I am so convinced artifacts should be brought to the surface. We would not be able to enjoy this sound or know anything at all about the whistle, if it had not be recovered. I know a lot of you disagree, but this is just my opinion Betty |
