For that price I'm sure it's real.

Well for that price it better be! Although there is a [i:c8cddf8c15]lot[/i:c8cddf8c15] of fake [i:c8cddf8c15]Titanic[/i:c8cddf8c15] stuff on eBay - if you want the real stuff, I know some antique dealers I can reccomend.....not that I can afford them myself!

I also would love to own a piece of the titanic. IMO, I always thought they should sell the "rusticles in a vial". I am sure a lot of us would buy them and they should be inexpensive as there are a lot of them?

The main problem with that is that they fall apart if they aren't under the pressure they're in on the ship. Charlie Pelligrino said one of the hardest things about them was keeping them together enough to study them. Besides, do you [i:919f109ffd]want[/i:919f109ffd] a clump of bacteria in your house? Ick.

Geez team tuna,
Guess I will have to read up on the rusticles. I did not know they were any kind of bacteria that would hurt people only iron.

Oh well, it was just a thought

They're not able to hurt people - I just don't like germs. Over-fastidious, maybe.

Teamtuna,
Do you think this will be some of the things they might be offering at the auction in NYC(the seating menu), etc.
Hmmmmm where can I get $1,500<LOL>

I wonder why all this stuff is surfacing now?

They will be offering this kind of thing, yes, but it won't be this stuff. It will be merchandise with a certificate of authenticity along with a full provenance (the history of the piece, who's owned it when) and a guarantee that should this piece be questioned, the seller will back it up, and if he is proven wrong will buy it back at the selling price. (That's the reasons the prices will be sky-high.)

Most of the [i:62a2528548]Titanic[/i:62a2528548] artifacts offered on eBay are questionable, to be charitable about it. Or it's collectibles, which are nice but not very exclusive. There is no sort of authentication system used - it's let the buyer beware. Usually, you get a letter from the person saying yes this is what I say it is - which is worth the paper it's written on. One of the reasons you want to go to a dealer is they will stand by their stuff, and if it turns out to be fake, will buy it back at the purchase price.

Most serious [i:62a2528548]Titanic[/i:62a2528548] buffs use the stuff on eBay to laugh about. Period.
